Wildfire Hazard Assessment

The majority of homes lost to wildfire are first ignited by embers and small flames. By reducing the susceptibility of the home and the area immediately around the home (also called the “home ignition zone”, the chances of a home surviving a wildfire are greatly increased.

Fire-Scapes Wildfire Hazard Assessment evaluates the area 100-200 feet from the home, including the home’s design and materials, nearby vegetation, and other structures or attachments like decks, furniture, fences, and outbuildings. Final product includes a report highlighting priorities.

Wildfire Mitigation & Forest Health Planning

Mitigation and Forest Health Planning takes a wholistic view of the entire property. The goal here is to protect your property by identifying excessive understory fuel loads or ladder fuels, and excessive tree densities while improving the overall health of the forest stand.

From the individual tree to your small forest, Mitigation Plans will include overall improvement to forest health making your stand less susceptible to fire and disease and will reduce the overall fire potential on your property. Fire-Scapes will work with the natural aesthetics of the property, providing you with a beautiful, healthier and more resilient forest after the work is complete.
Final reporting will include a mitigation prescription that the homeowner can hand to a local tree service or mitigation contractor to complete the needed work.

Fire-Scapes LLC is a locally owned Grand County business specializing in wildfire hazard assessments, mitigation and forest health planning, and forest consulting for private property.
Owner and Senior Ecologist with Fire-Scapes LLC, Banning Starr, has over 20 years experience working as an Ecologist for the US Forest Service. In addition, Banning has served for over 8 years in the Fire Service as a Lieutenant with East Grand Fire, serving the Winter Park and Fraser areas in both the Wildland and Structure environments. Banning's experience and working knowledge in both these fields gives him the expertise to assess wildfire threats to your property, and to develop proper mitigation strategies to improve the fire resilience and overall health of your property.
